I spoke with a class of children at a school around the neighborhood and undoubtedly a majority of the boys wanted to play professional sports involving a ball. I challenged them to become familiar with the entirety of the sport and all the inputs that go into it not just the playing it part. Sports players should also be the pillars of financial responsibility and literacy and seek to own leagues and teams and not just play for them. These are old lessons from the black vanguard and intelligentsia born out of the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s and the fact that they are still immediately relevant and in need of propagation should speak volumes to the passively oppressed state we continue to exist in and the shape of blues to come.
