Hi Everyone...We have another update on the native plants outside our office. We were thrilled to see that painted lady butterflies had returned to Lincoln for a visit last week on their southbound migration! Just outside our office windows, we counted more than 50 of the butterflies attracted by the fragrant flowers of the blue hyssop bushes we had planted. We're happy and grateful to know that, if we provide the habitat, they will come. You too can help butterflies and other pollinators by planting native species in your yard. And don't forget to encourage your local officials to do the same in public parks and along roadways.
We're hoping to have more insect visitors as our patch of prairie grows, so stay tuned! Swipe right to see the painted lady pose for the Photo Ark.

Hey! Just today I was downtown in Oslo and outside a cafe there was a planter with this same kind of bush and i had to postpone my coffee to take pics of the many butterflies taking a drink, along with some of those cute, fat bumblebees that live here in Norway. The butterflies have really been out these last couple of days and it was nice to see them enjoying themselves on a busy Saturday downtown too.

‼️I’m trying to do the same on my tiny terrace in Manhattan. I planted Anise hyssop and had loads of bumble and honey and other bees. But few butterflies. I’ve ordered a few more pollinator plants to see how they fare. BTW, oregano flowers. They love oregano. Wish I had a garden but grateful for this little plot.

We did a small butterfly release for my Grandmothers birthday and it was so cool! I have always wondered if this is good or bad for the butterflies and local environment. They all were alive when we released them and we followed the instructions on where and how to do it. It was pretty amazing!

They've been amazing this side of the Atlantic too. I found myself in Leith (Edinburgh) physically ducking as I walked through a swarm. I don't think I've seen so many butterflies of any sort in such numbers for years.

Hi Joel. The video shows Painted lady (Vanessa cardui) butterflies and the ark photos are an American lady (Vanessa virginiensis). Add a Painted lady to the ark. You have so many in the new habitat! Love your work.

Earlier this year, I saw thousands painted lady butterflies in north San Diego. It was so cool to see hoards of butterflies constantly streaming by my office window.
