autobiography in five short chapters - by Portia Nelson // My therapist showed me this poem a few years ago & it had an instant effect on me. I think from that moment it started to slowly change my life & I still revisit at least twice a month. Today is one of those days. Grappling between 3 & 4. Change is hard. Felt like someone else needs to see this today too.💛

Change is hard and impossible because a beautiful loving merciful compassionate perfect God who created us in his own image and likeness knows we need him, created us to be like him and be one with him and need him and live his way but humans want to act like they know everything and he doesn't exist, or don't need him when all they have to show for all their perfection and knowledge is all the bad things we see on the news everyday and in human history, their divorces and therapy they are in!!! But still come with that perfect race and people crap everyday never convinced by what they see everyday in the world and in their own lives the reality of what they are!!!!

I experienced this! Every place I lived I found myself in a similar predicament. I blamed the place. Then I moved to NYC. It was so hard to get established there, but I was also free to be me. Eventually I explored that freedom, while being trapped by a city that would have scolded me for leaving and then trying to get back. I still have some struggles, but I remember how I triumphed over NYC.

That's about the truth and reality of it!!! You can't keep crying victim and blaming everybody else for your problems and why things go wrong and don't work out in life like you are the one that is perfect and always right, ...and it's only the world and everybody else that's always wrong!!! But never innocent and perfect love and actions and decision making you!!!

@ella_purnell There is a person that everyone never wants to leave while cuddling, a city where he wants to walk all the streets, and a movie he wants to live.
Believe my life has never been a beauty that has ever been tarumar. Looking for your love I can't find the wind of love on the streets.

@ella_purnell Someone shared this poem in my DBT class a couple years ago. I just finished a book called The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris. It was recommended by my therapist and it helped me get through certain things.

I remember my mum reading me this when I was 14, it's something I still think about, it helped a lot when navigating adolescence/growing up. It's great to see it help other people too, thanks for sharing it @ella_purnell
