My friends, the meme going around about Instagram not being allowed to use your pictures because you posted that screencap...is not real. BUT it is very, very instructive. So many of us are deeply concerned about our privacy and the way tech companies are claiming ownership of our information. And while a meme won’t protect you from their ludicrous Terms of Service, demanding that the federal government follow the lead of many states including California and reject the tech lobby and support REAL legislation to protect our privacy can. Take a look at the Digital Privacy Alliance and the Electronic Frontier Foundation for really good information and YELL AT YOUR GOVERNMENT UNTIL THEY LISTEN TO YOU. Please! As you read this tech lobbyists are desperately trying to de-fang California’s law that takes effect in 2020. But it shouldn’t be up to the states. We need a unified federal law and federal standards with federal punishment for violations. Ya know, just in case 😉. And my dear, dear friends with big platforms PLEASE be careful about what you post. Please make sure you’re advocating for actionable solutions, not magic pills. The magic pills are never, never what they seem.
