A prestigious panel of doctors recommends all survivors of breast and ovarian cancers should talk to their doctor about getting tested for the gene mutation called BRCA. Currently, the test is given to only half the women who need it. - @NBCNightlyNews

I am so happy to see this on the news! I have been doing events and creating awareness in communities across the country for a year now educating about early detection of hereditary cancer testing. I offer it at no cost to those who qualify. You must have a medical need for it. That means either you have been diagnosed or 2 family members need to have had a cancer diagnosis of some kind. The test is a cheek swab. No needles. You can opt to have it run with our doctors or we can work with your personal doctor. Its so important to know your risks before a symptom ever shows up. Call 833.DNA.SWAB or go to www.BRCAmovement.com to schedule an appointment to find out if you qualify for it.

I am a 4 year survivor. Had the test 12 years before diagnosis and negative BRCA 1-2. The genetic counselor told it changes nothing to my pre cancer high risk survalence plan. Make your own choices. The test was covered and proved nothing. They even asked me if I wanted genetic testing after my diagnosis.. why ? what’s the point? The test was done already. I chose Mastectomies vs radiation. And lumpectomy. Be informed. Breast cancer.org was best for me and I’m a nurse as well. Hope this helps someone searching for advice....

There are cheaper gene tests out there now like mouth swabs. I'm BRACA2 positive and I'm a great cancer survivor of 10 years. I'm the only female on my mother's side to survive because I was proactive. Mammogram was negative so I got a breast MRI and that's how my in sit tu breast cancer was found. Go by your gut. Doctors aren't always right or know best. Trust your instinct.

My insurance doesn’t cover the test. My sister had breast cancer raising my odds to 50% of becoming infected and while I get regular mammograms - the density of my breasts would be better served with 3D mammograms. Also not covered by my insurance. So I just pray - and hope that I find it before it’s too late. 😔 #SaveTheTaTas

In Australia it’s way to expensive and you have to prove hereditary from about 6 family members back. I am a survivor but I don’t know other than one aunt who suffered and passed from it. No other records kept
