Help create a brighter future for orangutans like Ayu and D.J. @tamansafariid by only buying from companies that support sustainable palm oil practices. While both Bornean and Sumatran orangutans are fully protected by law, the forest that they depend on is not. ​Logging to make room for palm oil plantations has made it almost impossible for orangutans to find tall old growth trees which they need to cross rivers that divide their habitat. The inability to move freely makes mating with other orangutans difficult, leading to a lack of genetic diversity which can be disastrous for a species whose numbers are already declining.​ Orangutans play an important role as gardeners of their forest homes - without them, many tree species would disappear entirely. But, humans still want palm oil, so in order for orangutan populations to thrive, humans need to find solutions for people and wildlife to live together. disney_pixie0717 Thank you for posting this. My daughter did a video project when she 10 years old on orangutans and the palm oil plantations. It is important at any age to make people aware of what is going on with the environment and what they can do to help her part of the solution.
