Did you know that an Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica) can hold more than 20 fish in its bill at once? When feeding young, a parent will dive into the ocean as much as eight times a day to fetch mouthfuls of food for themselves and their puffling. A raspy tongue helps the bird to hold its bounty in place. The Atlantic Puffin spends most of its time out at sea, only coming ashore to breed. During breeding season, which typically ends in August, this colorful bird might be spotted in parts of the North Atlantic such as Iceland, Norway, Canada, and Greenland.
