While I'm best known for OBEY and HOPE, I've been making sociopolitical and environmentalist statements through art since I was a college student in the late '80s and early '90s. Here's a throwback to the art I created for the Sierra Club in 1997, under the leadership of my friend Adam Werbach at that time. I love the challenge of creating imagery for a cause. It's symbiotic for me to make an image for an organization that is designed to raise awareness about an issue we both care about. I like to bring people into a conversation about whatever social or political issue they may not know about, and turn them on to the organizations that do real work on the ground for these causes. If organizations want to use imagery to further their message outside of what I can do interfacing with my audience, that's a great thing. - Shepard

trishmullahey I recall living in manhattan and thinking as I stood in central park " there is not one sip of sweet air in this city " I couldnt abide that and moved to california . The people in New York were wonderful though
