Literally some of these that are like "why is this for children?" Here is why: parents didn't want their children talking to strangers or running off in the woods or putting themselves in danger, so they would tell children these stories to prevent them from doing so. Rather than being just told "don't do it" it was explained to them from a young age that they could, in fact, DIE which kept them cautious and, oh look at that, ALIVE.

Boogie man stories have existed in all cultures since the beginning of time. These were stories meant to teach lessons, for you to be grateful for what you had, but like, don’t eat an old lady’s candy house in the woods, or be mean to a frog because he’ll turn into the boyfriend you always wanted... lol

I remember being in first grade and our teacher read us a story about a girl who always wore a scarf around her neck and some boy was curious why she always wore the scarf and when she finally shows, her head falls off. It was keeping her head on her shoulders.

My best friend and I sat down to watch the Disney short stories on Netflix, AND WITH NO WARNING the little match girl came on and we kept hoping for a good moment. There were none, it just kept getting worse. Thanks, Disney.

The one about the match girl isn't so sad because, even tho she dies, she finally finds her grandmother who died sometime earlier. The only person who ever loved her. It's better than being mistreated.
