Unfortunately, at the moment, the process for these mushrooms (as well as other fungi that decompose plastic) to “eat” plastic takes months, which while much shorter than the natural decomposition rate of plastic (400-ish years), isn’t fast enough to compensate for the world’s current plastic consumption rate. Hopefully, scientists can find a way to speed it up or these fungi can be used as part of an at-home plastic composting bin-type thingy. Unfortunately, funding is fairly limited for research on this topic at the moment so we’ll see. I think new research is going to be published later this year and that might jumpstart interest/let researchers get money through grants. Anyway, the takeaway is science is cool and mushrooms are doing more to combat climate change than a lot of people 😂

@lucastill what an interesting scientific fact which I already knew & learned about watching another one of favourite CBS shows Scorpion which was sadly cancelled. Thanks Lucas for sharing this and I hope you have a great night! 😃💕

@the_bottle_kola well forget all that.. The rich guys will never let us solve anything. People just wants problems to stay the same so they can earn through thay

The world is knowing!! But nothing is happened. The right person's can change the world but nobody starts. I have no hope that we can do it anymore.

Wow, this Mushroom would be the solution to fight against plastic waste! It would be great for our Planet ♻️
Thanks for sharing this news

@cornelius_roz A better way of looking at this is that our planet is rather capable of recovering and recycling given enough time.
