carrieb30 Hi E, I don't typically write to strangers on Instagram and I know you get thousands of posts, but I want to thank you for Handmaids Tale. I was raised in a house built on fear, control and religion. Forced to sit under the pulpit of men that didn't lead in love, but sowed separation, shame and fear into their congregations. When I came out to my parents at 19, they said that if I was going to make this choice, they would rather God take me "home" now. I know the book and series are a work of fiction, but it's so painfully close to what already is for some people, and a cautionary tale about what's happening right in front of us. I watched episode 13 tonight. I was angry and cried and encouraged. Thank you.

dr_i_daraiseh Watching the HANDMAID'S TALE and thinking how much Offred's plight resembles that of ALL women in patriarchal society, East or West. The details vary from place to place, but patriarchy remains a global phenomenon. Luckily, resistance to patriarchy is becoming a global phenomenon as well. It's going to be a long hard struggle, though. Patriarchal attitudes are deeply ingrained all over the world, even though they are ultimately bad for everyone of every gender. Men might gain power from patriarchy, but they lose humanity. Women lose both power and humanity. Do you agree?

sherpasmom There are so many layers unfolding expanding Atwood’s timeless story. I am stunned with each turn’s freshness, fragility and haunting familiarity. Maybe it’s collective consciousness of my own ancestors fleeing persecution centuries ago, or the knowing that people in this very moment are experiencing similar terrors... but it’s a humbling thing to experience. We aren’t merely viewing but transported. Thanks to everyone who makes this happen. ❤️
