mary_catherine_howard Local shelters always need more resources, but if they're open intake that means they have to take in all animals, regardless of condition from their jurisdiction, which in turn increases euthanasia from sick and injured animals coming in that can't be saved or treated. The gen pop believes "no kill" means there's a way for no animals to be euthanized and that is not true. "No kill" means to have a save rate of at least 90%. Unfortuantely, some states and cities have laws and regulations on pit bulls and not allowing TNR programs to help save cats, which makes it impossible to reach 90%. That's what animal welfare is focusing on now!

joemqn @mrs.ozbourne Nobody is attacking the OKC shelter. Certainly, nobody is attacking the workers there who do a fantastic job. The OKC shelter is antiquated and completely inadequate for the needs of the City. There is an opportunity to build a new shelter using available funds. OKC would welcome your assistance in sharing this effort to your like-minded people.

jen_edmonds The tone here is a little confusing. I can’t tell if you’re implying the current shelter as an organization isn’t doing an adequate job. All love, just saying that could be good to clarify. I have a feeling this is a resource issue not about management so don’t want them to start being put on blast.

mrs.ozbourne No kill shelters don't exist, they just refuse to care for sick or injured animals, instead of attacking your local shelter.. become a foster for them, sick animals can not thrive in a shelter situation. A lot of times the Shelters become exhausted from the amount of sick pets brought in.
