CDs are great. I have about 10 of the ones shown on this photo. Vinyls are just a gimmick since everything is recorded digitally nowadays... people don't get that the sound of vinyl was indeed good, but when things got recorded the old school way & for that medium. Having digitally recorded music put on vinyl does nothing for the sound, at all. So...I buy old vinyls from the good ole days. For the rest I'll go CD. Which is easy to collect & still has artwork. As for streaming & digital DL: I don't bother with these. I want something I can touch & especially a sleeve/booklet I can read. In any case, might it be on CD, vinyl, tape...John Carpenter's music is a MUST have, & surely my favorite!! 👍👍👍

@needlehit I've spent the last 15 years working both as a music journalist & A&R for music labels. 98% of new releases are recorded through softwares such as Pro Tool etc...since the recordings are digital, putting it on vinyl does nothing for the sound, at all. It doesn't sound better than if put on CD. That's all. I never said people can't collect vinyls old or new, if thats what they are into. I said that I still buy CDs and have most of John's albums on CD. When everything is a colored vinyl, how special is a colored vinyl anymore. I like my vinyls black & pre-90's. And for the rest, I go CD. Just my personal opinion & taste.

I love getting physical copies of albums to this day, especially of your work. I proudly pre-ordered the score for "Halloween (2018)" and love listening to that CD! On the whole it's unfortunately true but there are those of us who will always prefer physical media. Because that's the media we purchase and actually own in support of artists like yourself!

I wonder if the placement of these cds mean anything, like trying to figure out if MacReady is really "The Thing" or not. Interestly, The Thing ost is right smack in the middle, where the eye is trained to focus first. Is this a hidden message? I will need to dig into this picture some more and see if there are any other clues... 👿

@needlehit Not my point. Point was CDs are great. As for the sound , as explained, new vinyl releases are mainly recorded digitally, not analog, therefore they don't sound better than CDs. Therefore, printing digitally recorded music onto vinyl is just for looks. That's fine. But it does nada for the sound.

Physical medie will never die. Look at the popularity of boutique labels like Arrow video, indicator powerhouse, Criterion, Scream factory and many more. Special edition CDs are still doing OK. Music may go totally digital but films will be still in the physical format.
