@annaw23 you need to get off the band wagon or where ever you’re get your propaganda talking points. The US only produces less then 15% of all pollution in the world and over the last decade, CO2 emissions in the US have decreased greater then any other industrialized nation in the world. The top polluters in the world are China, India, Pakistan, Brazil and a large part of the Asia pacific, the US is very low on that list on a per capita bases. It’s also ironic that the US leads the way on CO2 reductions over any other nation that is part of the so called Paris agreement, most countries still on that agreement have actually increased there emissions. And as I said before, not all but a lot of the recyclables that we pay other countries to repurpose are actually dumping some of that into oceans, some get into oceans due to weather events, you can’t blame US over any of that. The Trump administration did nothing to the EPA rules that cause more pollution, they just corrected regulations that were going to make it impossible for people to live in this world. I would guess you like to turn your lights on and charge your smartphone and laptop, where do you think all that electricity, that benefits the 350 million people in the US comes from?

Hey there @shailenewoodley
I heard on the Gold FM Christian O'Connell breakfast show that if someone can convince a celeb to call in to the show from Monday next week (12 Aug) and name a charity of their choice, the celeb can win $20k for their chosen charity and that someone can also win $20k.
I am in awe of your enviro advocacy and want to ask you to consider nominating @friendsoftheearth__ or @wotch_inc (Wildlife of the Central Highlands) as your chosen charity, in what is a critical time for our Aussie forests (and wildlife in general). Details:

WOTCH is a team of volunteers that is currently fighting Vicforests in court over illegally logging protecting areas so every little helps keep our trees standing! Outdated Regional forest agreements (RFAs) exempt the logging industry from Australian environmental laws. We have less than 2% old growth forest left in Victoria.
An exceptional long shot I realise but Mother Earth needs you! @gold1043 #callchristian

@nimrod_ney countries" that follow "socialist principles"? Yes, the top 5 countries on that list are in East and Southeastern Asia, but that is because they take in plastic recycling from America. OUR plastic waste. And yes, EPA penalties seem significant. However, that largest polluters in the US are the largest companies, meaning that even the maximum daily penalties (around $15k) are a drop in the bucket for them, so there is no incentive for them to change their behavior. And because of the Trump administrations cuts to the agency, inspections are far last frequent, meaning that regulations are not enforced as as strictly as they once were. The United States is the second largest contributor to pollution and climate change in the entire world, behind only China and polluting more than India, the entire EU and Russia combined. It is our responsibility to clean it up, and not pass the blame to poor countries that are struggling to grow and develop.

Please spread the voice on how the global food system is damaging our planet: various studies show it is one of the leading causes of climate change, land use, freshwater use and pollution through fertilisers and pesticides. Food production in fact causes great damage to the environment, via greenhouse gases from livestock, deforestation and water shortages from farming, and vast ocean dead zones from agricultural pollution. Without action, its impact will get far worse as the world population rises. Despite the huge impact of the food system over the global warming very few speak about it and there is a lack of information about it. We need to increase the awareness of this topic as it could make a huge difference for the future of our planet. All the best and keep going!

Hi !! I am from Coyhaique, the capital of Chilean Patagonia. One of the most damaged cities in the world by air pollution. Here, in Coyhaique, we use wood to heat our homes and that makes our city puff up. The government does not help us with any real solution and our only recourse is to fight them. We have to make them public and we need all the help that is possible. We live in one of the most virgin parts of the world and we want it to continue that way. Can you help us make this more public by sharing this post of the guardian???? Please!!! https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2019/jul/17/a-city-suffocating-most-polluted-city-in-americas-struggles-to-change-coyhaique-chile

@erinac04 it was in a general sense of people, but glad to know you are triggered easily. It’s disingenuous to blame capitalism for plastic in the oceans, since most plastic that gets dumped into the oceans is from 3rd world countries that follow socialist principles. The US has some of the strictest environmental laws and they are enforced. It’s also ironic, since Greenpeace is a capitalist organization and there big ship burns 5k gallons of diesel fuel that’s polluting the ocean while they are out getting micro plastic. I think the fish hate the oil slick the diesel exhaust leaves on the water more then the plastic.
