@makescott 4 times as many people die from stabbings than from rifles in the US every year, m8. It would be your right IF you were an American citizen, you are correct. Actually, only American citizens have that right, right? To protect against all threats of those looking to impose their will forcefully upon you via violent means, bingo. Hey if you don't take your well being seriously or don't want to be responsible for your saftey that is fine but there is a spirit of self reliance in America. That's why this country has lead the industrial revolution, modernized assembly lines, commercialized flight, spanned an entire continent with rail, bailed europe out of two world wars, and tamed an entire frontier in the span of two and a half centuries. No specific people of any ethnicity or gender or religious creed did it, it was a consorted effort of all people that had that attitude, the attitude of being capable that overcomes fear. Actually, that attitude is fleeting more and more as people like you demoralize and mentally erode the spirit of those here, while you keep this charade of progress and superiority. I'd attribute the decline of this place in recent years, and the turmoil, to that. The feeling of hopelessness spread by the dismal world view of those willing to surrender their individual rights for the illusion of security without personal responsibility.

@makescott my point exactly, thank you. Why blame an inatimate object, a tool. When it is operator error via mental illness. Would you admit we're not addressing the problem then the actual problem? You have. Blaming a majority for the actions of a few is fascist. Making millions if law abiding american criminals because they hold very valid reasons for defending themselves is silly. You also totally ignored any point I made about how fragile the 911 infrastructure in the event of a natural disaster or civil unrest. That is one county, in one state, theres 50 states, each comprised of counties roughly the same size with the same 911 resources. Most of the people in this country lives in these areas. @makescott it would be an impossible job, you've proven your disconnect from reality. People die every day we can't have knee jerk policy responses for the illusion of saftey and the ability to speak down on others for being less 'civilized' on instagram and shaming them for their freedoms. Pat yourself on the back any harder and you'll spit up your tea and crumpets. In conclusion it's great that things are working for you there, what works in one place doesn't inherently mean it will work everywhere and it should be no concern of yours what is going on in a place you never go with people you don't know or intend to know.

Okay let's do it, so if there is a natural disaster or the government ceases to perform its function due to literally whatever, who do you call to protect you if people are killing eachother over food and assaulting your loved ones and community? If you live in an urban area, how long do you think it will take for people to turn violent in civil unrest and start killing eachother for scraps? Millions of people in an area that is devoid of arable land. Like the LA riots, no calling 911. Katrina, Houston, New York power outage, no calling 911. Still people willing to do anything to survive and still the same people willing to do violence on others in order to do so. Like it is an uncomfortable thought, but it would not take much more than an act of nature (as proven before) to render the system ineffective. Then what? You're a slave at the mercy of whoever got their hands on a gun (because they will still exist even if they are banned). Take responsibility, arm yourself and be ready to protect yourself and those around you in the case that individuals in a disaster turn tyrannical and try to impose their will upon you and your loved ones. The second amendment was meant to protect against all tyranny, not just government tyranny.

@makescott Sir, are you saying there are absolutely no threats of violence that exist in the world, in your world? Ignorance is bliss, afterall. You must live in quite the utopia. This morning my buddies were at work surveying and a naked man care running out of the woods with a stab wound. You may sit in a cube while at work and keep the same frequent daily schedule like a creature of habit or a cog in a machine, but, in the real world, there are free radicals. Also, no responsible gun owner would go out drinking for hours while armed, it's not a good look and hard to make a case in court for self defense if you shoot someone while intoxicated. Not to mention you would be less aware of the background of your assailant and may accidentally strike a bystander. No wonder your country doesn't allow it's populace to be armed, sounds like nobody would know how to handle themselves.. that is if you're any representation of the whole. Cheers m8, have one on me.

@ifeelsimilartopablo it wouldn’t make them criminals if they voluntarily gave them up. It simply makes the justification for owning a gun tougher and thus reducing the widespread sale and saturation of them. No guns, no gun crimes. Tough to implement and would take generations. But in the long term, No smoke no fire no issue. Chill out man. There’s nothing trying to kill you that warrants the paranoia you have or feel duty bound to defend.

@glossoph0bia ah indeed, not everyone on mood altering pharmaceuticals flips their lid and shoots a place up.. but everyone who flips their lid and shoots a place up is on mood altering pharmaceuticals. Rest assured, while you may not have violent shootings to worry about, you still have violent crime. There are still mass stabbings. I mean even with gun crime, more people die from stabbings in the US per year than from rifles.
