WAIT A MINUTE MR. POSTMAN:
The above cover is from our October 1955 issue, published the same year that Playboy successfully won a civil action against the Eisenhower administration, which wanted to deny the magazine second-class postal privileges. In 1955, laws that defined "obscenity" gave disproportionate power to the USPS to decide what information Americans could receive. In a time without the Internet, that meant the government could prevent women from accessing info on abortion and contraception. Oh, how the times have changed.

For the past six decades, Playboy has advocated for First Amendment rights--from the pages of the magazine to the bench of the Supreme Court, and the fight continues today, which is why we are pushing back against unconstitutional restrictions on the free press. In coordination with Ted Boutros, Playboy has appealed a “preliminary decision” by the White House to suspend our White House Correspondent @brianjkarem for 30 days. Stay tuned for the administration's answer.
