The Bahamian government is discussing the ban of shark feeding in the Bahamas. What do you think?
P.s: no shark was hurt in this photo I just pushed it away. 📷 @j.kowitz

For sure it’s good, if sharks relate humans with food they will come closer to us always, the only way they have to know if we have something to eat it biting us, so... I don’t have scientific probe of this but I have being spearing since I was 10 years old, grew in Cuba and fished most of the waters around the island( the ones that I could) and yes there where plenty of sharks but they were afraid of separos, they didn’t related our presence with a source of food, so problems like the ones we are seeing now were very scarce. In Florida or Bahamas if you are spearing it’s very common to be pushed out of the water for very inquisitive sharks many times some days more than one during the same trip, they are not afraid of us, they look for us because they know we are a source of an easy food, in my opinion to ban the feeding will improve this situation, I will allow as well to take a shark with a speargun as well, just my opinion.

So not ban ;-)

Well I dont dive that deep in the right or wrong, but it did bring me to be a shark advocate from my experience with diving with them at the Bahamas. So choose your poison, educate people like me from the experience or try some other way. But honestly I would not have been exposed if not for that.... right or wrong, I dont know but I'm a advocate now!

Having over 300 dive days at Tiger Beach, I can positively say that the palagic species seen there still come and go as they please. Often leaving for months at a time. Feeding has no effect on their migratory patterns. This was verified by Dr Neil H at U Miami w his shark tagging research program..

If you believe that you can feed the wild an then take conscious beings just to taste the wild by feeding it, without ever making the wild conscious and loosing its nature then feed the wild. But if you believe that the wild cannot be fed by conscious beings then don’t feed it.

A lot of "experts" believe conditioning sharks to equate humans with food could lead to more attacks, especially if it is suddenly ended. I'm pretty sure there is more to shark attacks than a shark missing it's lunch. They are magnificent animals regardless.
