My Dad worked at the @uspostalservice and took me to the movies every week while my Mom made me empathetic and called me Tiger (which she still does). As a kid, I was never into sports, politics or even reality: I fell in love with comics, movies, TV & pop culture. One day, I found an adventure story my Sister was writing featuring her and her friends. When I was baffled as to how she had the audacity to write a book without the government’s permission, my Sister said the thing that would shape my future: “Anybody can write anything they want. You don’t have to ask anybody for permission.” So I learned how to write stories on an old electric typewriter, and the first thing I concocted was a satirized take on visiting my relatives that made my Brother laugh. His reaction to my words made me believe I could maybe write for a living one day. So I spent years writing for the fun of it - until one day, I saw a Richard Linklater film called Slacker that made me think I might be able to make a movie too. So I went to the @vancouverfilmschool, where I met @samosier and @davidkleinasc. A year later, we gathered together at a convenience store I worked at named Quick Stop, and along with @jaymewes, @briancohalloran, @marilynghigliotti, #JeffAnderson and more, we made a movie called CLERKS. Since then, I’ve made lots more movies as well as an ungodly amount of podcasts, had my own TV show about me and my friends, opened a comic book shop, and become a tick on the ass of pop culture that cannot be burned off with a lighter (that’s how we rolled in the 70’s). And in my real life that exceeded my fantasy-life-come-true, I married a wonderful woman named @jenschwalbach and Fathered an incredible daughter named @harleyquinnsmith. My heart attacked me a year and change back, but we’ve since come to an understanding. Today is the first day in the last year of my 40’s, so I’m going to try to fill the next 364 days with joy. In aid of accomplishing this, I’ll be touring my new movie @jayandsilentbob Reboot from October to March, meeting the folks who like to listen to my stupid stories.
