I’d met Michael three-ish years ago when I was painting a mural in Koreatown and he very generously passed along my info to @lenatito with the market. After reading about their history, principles, and values I created a design based on a number of key points: thinking globally yet acting locally, knowing where your food comes from, and the process of growing organic produce from seed up fruition. So.... telling their story through my art lens, I came up with these three giant hands on the main wall. The center hand is sewing seeds, the hand to the left with its stubbier proportions was more childlike holding a sproutling (seems fitting), and the hand on the right is holding a ripened piece of produce. With a nod to thinking globally, I subtly turned that orange into the 🌎. The soil on the lower left and the crops on the lower right are made up of a series of multicultural faces in profile. The background lines create a blooming, growing mass which continues onto the adjoining 60ft wall underneath a massive window. Some fruit and vegetables travel along that scrolling detail. And acting sort of like bookends, I also painted two tall columns within the store. Thank you again to The Co+Opportunity Market & Deli and Culver City Arts District. Appreciate you all.
