so much hate in the comments. this publication empowers an international community of color and is owned and operated by people without institutional privilege; to suggest that this post is an example of vultures sharing black/latinx language with the mainstream is to silence the black and latinx people who labored for this video and company. second, why does it matter if everyone in the US has been saying gucci for years? you assume that because the host has a British accent, the publication is solely directed toward a UK audience. the post, and i_d itself, is for everyone worldwide. not only that, it means nothing if “you did it first.” words don’t have to be *emerging* to be interesting. they only have to be *relevant*. lastly, bringing down this beautiful girl in the process of critiquing the exercise of sharing a cultural tool is just cruel. exercise the respect you want to be treated with and guaranteed it will come full circle, at the very least in artist communities like the one i_d has fostered. @cornershopqueen you’re so funny and cute and i already loved this post before i even turned the volume up!!!!! your voice & energy made me love it even more 😍🧚🏽♀️💘✨🔥

The amount of negativity in the comments is unbelievable. At no point in the video, did she claim the word Gucci was emerging nor did she say the internet created it. The fact she omitted its potential origin does not imply we are making it emerge as a whole new concept. And FYI since when do you need a black person to teach you black history?? Stop screwing at her for being brown. Make your own damn video if it hurts you that much. This was not designed to explain the history of vocabulary, so why should it? Do you want a history lesson on your feed??

People are mad. Nobody knows where the girls from. Her roots, her heritage or her background. Stfu. Black, brown, white, pink... You’re all mad. Leave her alone. People are out here identifying as trees and you lot are worrying about her ethnicity. How bout it doesn’t matter. Like the post of move on. Bunch of weird racist haters pretending to be intelligent historians.

Here’s an old word but let’s make it new again | “Wroth” it means angry to the point of action - “I am straight up wroth about cultural appropriation”

@i_d here’s a tip stop using racially ambiguous people to explain black culture or our vernacular.
