The local schools start back TOMORROW 😳!!! Meanwhile, we haven’t ordered her curriculum because we ended up really disliking last year’s materials and need a change. She’s obviously super broken up over the whole situation. #KeepOnSummering☀️ #homeschooling

We used @sonlightcurriculum growing up, and it’s fairly flexible I believe. I have been keeping my eye on it for my future (imaginary) children. The things I liked/remember the most about it were the Wordly Wise (vocabulary books), Spelling Power, Writing Strands (creative writing), and Saxon Math. I’m pretty sure we usually used read aloud materials for history and I can’t remember science to save my life. 😂 I was homeschool k-8th and we used Sonlight the whole time! My mom would make a few adjustments here and there but for the most part we stuck with their curriculum.

I was homeschooled and we did Konos unit studies… it’s super relaxed and allows for a lot of creativity… aka math can be calculating a castle moat one day (although I also had a formal math book) and science is learning about different building materials for castles and how compounds form which make some materials have different properties than others

All of these comments of shock are hilarious to me- I grew up going to school in AZ, where school lets out 1-2 weeks into June and everyone is back in school by July 25 (only 7 weeks for summer). 😂 It was my freshman year of college before August was considered summer vacation. But we had 2.5 week breaks in Oct, Dec and March. 👍🏻

Oh no! I thought bookshark was working for you guys. What level was it that you didn’t like? I gave up on my curriculum too last year we had been using Calvert but they went to a 100% online curriculum last year and we hated it. Just bought bookshark to give that a try for us this year

We are testing out a homeschool hybrid this year so it’s my first year of not stressing over curriculum, just stressing over all kinds of new things. Would love to hear what you choose. There’s a newer one that’s very art-centric, I think it’s Oak Meadow but I might be wrong.

In Australia schools usually break up for summer the Friday before Christmas and go back the week after Australia day (Jan 26), so we tend to only get 5-6 weeks off for summer max. Worst part is, the forests part of Summer always tends to be February
