Meet the Himalayan Monal (Lophophorus impejanus)! This colorful bird inhabits high-altitude forests and meadows in the Himalayas, where it spends its time foraging for snacks like insects, seeds, or berries. It uses its curved bill to dig up food, excavating as much as 10 inches (25.4 centimeters) below the surface. Only males of the species have vibrant plumage, which they use to attract a mate. Females have brown plumage, which helps keep them concealed from predators while incubating eggs.
