leeleemullan I think it’s fine. Taking your husbands name creates your own family unit. Example “let’s all go to the O’Neils for dinner tonight” If you have children would they get your husbands last name? So why not you? I do understand keeping your name for professional reasons. But when it come to your family situation I prefer to carry the family name.

aimee_taylor_mellott If she doesn’t want to do it, it doesn’t mean she doesn’t love him. Most guys I’ve talked to about that feel kinda like that. Maybe they ought to both take on each other’s names! Combine the 2 and be that family! It just seems like a win/win to me!!😍😍

vanessa8616 If it's really about becoming "one unit" he can take her name OR hyphenate and really start something new together as an actual team and not expect her to make all the changes because of outdated traditions. Get with the times 👏🏽

jacki3.ann For what? All my life I’ve been known by my name... getting married I’m supposed to just change it? All of my accomplishments (degrees, etc.) are in my surname. I’ve been married for 5 years with no intentions of changing it.

mmjaworski I don’t see what the big deal. I know we’re all about the independent woman movement. But I personally like this old tradition. It’s just a name. It doesn’t define who you are.
