Meet the Eastern Screech Owl (Megascops asio)! It has a wide range across the eastern United States, preferring to stick to woodlands where it can blend in with trees. The owl is on the smaller end–about the size of a pint glass, or a robin. During the day, it's hard to spot while it roosts in tree crevices. At dusk, it begins its hunt for snacks like small rodents, insects, or small birds. Despite its name, the owl’s call sounds more like soft trills rather than screeches.

Owls are cool and creepy at the same time. They’re like the Jeff Goldblum’s of the animal world.
