Did you know in 35 US states there is a sales tax on period products because they are considered NON-ESSENTIAL goods? Meanwhile, products like Rogaine and Viagra are treated more like necessities and don’t have this tax?
The “tampon tax” is a real world example of how our world still treats menstrual hygiene as a privilege. But it’s NOT! Menstrual hygiene is a RIGHT and we have to be fighting for equitable access to menstrual hygiene for ALL people.
I’m joining @periodmovement for #NATIONALPERIODDAY this fall to demand an end to PERIOD POVERTY and the tampon tax.

I didn't know this. This is very concerning since I live in one of the state's and I have two daughters. I mean it's sad enough that a box of assorted tampax pearls tampons cost $7.00 and plus kotex pads are over $5 dollars and my girls use different kinds and sizes. It gets expensive every month but it's a must have. I could really use no tax on all feminine products. What a disgrace. I'm joining #NATIONALPERIODDAY

Viagra is not taxed because it is a prescription drug, at least in my state it requires a prescription, and there is no tax on prescription drugs. In many places Rogaine is now available to purchase over the counter, which means it can be taxed. Maybe if we had a government that didn't need to tax every aspect of our lives this wouldn't be a problem.

In France all products are taxed, including these and their prices are prohibitively high for many women with very low income. I advise using a mooncup. It’s much cheaper and healthier, but unfortunately it wouldn’t be a solution for homeless women, since they need to be sterilized before and after using each month.

Same in Canada and I couldn't agree more! I hate spending money monthly on products that are essential for me. After watching a few price comparison video's on you tube, I am also astounded by the price difference between men's and women's products when the ingredients/brand are the same? Doesn't add up does it?

Welcome to Africa. There are countries in Africa and even places on South Africa where young girls miss school because they don't have access to feminine hygiene products. #changingperseptions #worldperiodday #nationalperiodday

I'm from Norway and I sent a menstruation first-aid packet to my friend in Pennsylvania. She has to pay three times as much for pads and tampons as I do! I also sent chocolate 😊 Your system is broken 🤨
