My little sister has Down syndrome and is 24 years old now. Growing up my other siblings and I never noticed anything different about her, she was simply our sister! — It wasn’t until we would go out in public that we would notice the difference. We would get dirty looks from not only other children but from their parents as well. We would notice how moms would pull their child aside when my sister was around. We noticed how certain friends wouldn’t play with us when my sister would join in. It confused us as children because we didn’t understand what everyone else was seeing because all we saw was our sister. Our beautiful sister. She has the most beautiful soul and the biggest heart. I couldn’t begin to imagine how she would have felt if she had seen someone celebrating the fact that their child wouldn’t “be like her”. It breaks my heart just thinking about it. — Our lives wouldn’t be the same without her in it. The joy and the light that she brings into our life, I just wish everyone would be able to experience that. We have to open our hearts to it though. Thank you for educating others on Down Syndrome and advocating for the community. 💕

I will become quite unpopular writing this but for a complete picture I feel I have to write this comment. I’m sure that someone has commented on this before. I feel that as a public person you have the responsibility to give a complete picture of Down syndrome when you choose to make such a statement. I am not saying that DS is a disease or that children with an extra chromosome don’t deserve to live and I agree with many of the things you say. However, being a doctor I feel saying that DS is not associated with suffering is simply wrong. I have seen it plenty of times. Yes, for some it isn’t, but unfortunately for many it is. DS is associated with several diseases that in most cases require painful treatment for the child (just to mention a couple of examples: congenital heart disease in 40-50%, duodenal atresia, epilepsy, hypothyroidism etc).

I knew you were a great woman when I saw you in the airport years back. I didn't want to bother you and wasn't sure that you were who you are so I pulled up a picture of you on my phone and showed it to you from across the other side of the seats and you just nodded your head. I never saw a real celebrity before my eyes and realized that you are like us but with one gift and that gift is your voice to speak up and people all over the world can listen to you. I agree with everything you say, you are a great celebrity but a better woman in my eyes. You are awesome.

You're so right i hate ppl who do that , i worked in fire protection at a place where allot of people with down syndrome live and work and the people the are some more of extreme down syndrome with complications but then even then you should take a peek and see the happiness that they share with every body even if they don't know who you are you get a big hug , only thing i got from my boss 30 hours to do that place and i loved it so much i stayed over 300 hours and then i got fires for taking too long and you know what i did not give a F i was happy :)

When I first found out I was pregnant they asked if I wanted the test to find out if my baby has DS, because if so I wasn't to far along to abort the baby. I was so taken back and confused that I started to cry. How is that even ok? I asked the Dr. if people actually do that and she said yes. It breaks my heart 💔 I said absolutely not because finding that out wouldn't change my mind about having this baby, I would love her no matter what! @caterinascorsone thank you for these words...I wish more people could see it this way😘❤️🙌

Thank you for this...it was beautiful and I couldn’t have said it better myself! When I hear someone respond “I’m sorry” when they hear a baby was born with Down syndrome, I just want to shout, “it’s not a bad thing, it’s a beautiful thing that should be celebrated because it will change your world in so many beautiful ways!!!” My little Ella just turned 4 on July 5th and she is the absolute light of our world!! 💙💛💙💛
