The inventors of insulin sold the patent for just $1 so it would be available to all.
97 years later, Americans are dying because drugmakers in the United States like Eli Lilly charge $300 for a vial of insulin. Tomorrow I will be joining diabetics to go across the border to Canada and buy insulin for one-tenth the price.

Yes but it and supplies fir 39 days cost me over 2,099 monthly most paid by insurance but that’s why insurance is high so lower the profits to the thieves and insurance will go down no rationing of insulin and I need two types daily Lantus and Humolog and must test before eating so test strips are $154.99 for 39 days yes tiny little paper test strip costs more than food? Plus needles and glucose meter and testing pins etc it all costs more than my mortgage and my food and car and clothing etc. Per month! USA is a scam giving rich profits from the sick!

I completely support the cause but in 1923 Fredrick sold it for $1... $1 was the worth of $100 back in those times so the comparison of it should be made more clear as to avoid someone belittling the argument. Seems all too often that people find some reason to not support a cause because of minor details
In 1923 Fredrick Banting sold the insulin patent for $1. That $1 had the value of $100 in those times. For an entire patent to be sold for $100 but a vial costs a person $300+ is outrageous and needs to be stopped.

My son who has severe asthma and allergies has a 7 prescriptions he takes daily. One of which is a prescription for symbicort, we just went to pick it up after losing our insurance coverage a few weeks ago and found out it is costing us $375 a month. That’s just one of 7 prescriptions! These prescriptions could be the difference between life and death for a 13 year old kid! We just looked into the pricing in Canada (we live 2 hours from the border) and found out it will only cost us $45 a month!

Healthcare is a basic public service that should be part of the infrastructure of any developed country. The fact that it is not guaranteed in our so-called “enlightened” federal republic shows the glaring problem with it. There is no constitutional rule requiring the government to concern itself with the health and economic security of the working class, which produces all wealth in this country.

How has this patent not expired yet? My Mom needs this to live. These inflated prices are one of the reasons insurance is so costly... however, especially with how corrupt of fed gov has become I can’t support Medicare for all.... I think we should be looking at what the Swiss model... and then perhaps a catastrophic care for all type thing. More viable . Red and blue could get behind it.

Actually the first dicoverer of insulin was Romanian and his name was Nicolae Paulescu. In 1916 nobody believed him and after a while this guy took his studies and made insulin an official treatment for diabetics. @berniesanders everyone should have the right to it, to this and to every other medical treatment.
