It’s no surprise we’re all addicted to social media, the platforms were designed with exactly that end goal. So, as Instagram rolls out a new feature that prevents users from seeing how many ‘likes’ a post has, Vogue asks what impact – if any – this move will have on our mental wellbeing. It’s hard to know what’s right for everyone, but whatever the outcome of this hidden “likes” trial we think it’s bringing light to the real struggle some people may be having with the pressures of being known to be liked, or popular. It’s an issue that’s existed since the playground and now for our youth it’s becoming even harder as it doesn’t stop when school is over. Social platforms are a wonderful tool, but they should be created responsibly and their creators do have a duty to question and refine their processes and the impact they have on people lives. I guess we will have to wait and see how the trial goes!

I love it!! And actually makes me like images more. Before if I would see an image with a lot of likes and I wouldn’t like it, bc I would say to myself they have enough. Now I have no idea and I like it that way

Do you really think they care about our mental health? 🤣 They should sell InstaAnalytics app and keep subscriptions rolling, shouldn’t they?

None. I don’t care about the number of hits my posts get!
