ok. so basically anyone that even vaguely knows me knows this one thing about me: I have had for my entire life, the MOST violently painful extremely intense pain with every single. period.
I've been to countless gynecologists and struggled for the last 20 years to get answers re: the cause of said pain. Almost all of them told me either
A. period Pain was normal
B. I should go on birth control (which didn’t help my pain & turns out doesn’t STOP the growth)
C. there was a chance I had an enigmatic disease called endometriosis, and to treat that my only option was a complicated surgery that often had to be redone at LEAST 7 to 10 and sometimes didn’t fix pain unless done right by a trained endo specialist.
Needless to say this left me feeling defeated. I didn’t even understand what endometriosis was! Then I was introduced by a dear friend to Dr. Iris Orbuch. I knew I was finally in the right place. She listened intently and not only explained every facet of what could be happening in my body, but a comprehensive lifestyle plan to diagnose, excise, and not only manage, but really BEAT this technically incurable disease. I am now 2 months recovering from a brilliantly done operation by Dr. Orbuch and feeling better than ever. Knowing I’m on the road to recovery gives me hope for my future that I never had before; I see a path ahead where I’m not weighed down by pain, fatigue, and depression 2 out of the 4 weeks of every month of my life and can now put that energy towards being the human I really want to be. For this I’m eternally grateful.
I say all this because Iris has written a book with her brilliant physical therapist friend, Dr. Amy Stein, in which they outline this whole body plan and how to find practitioners to help you live your best life with this disease. They answer all ?’s about periods/pain/nervous systems/all things related to pelvic health &steps to a pain free life. If you have any ?’s, or know anyone who has any ?’s, or if you know or love someone who is struggling (Endo affects at least 1 in 10 so chances are you do) I urge everyone to read this book. Knowledge is power. IT CAN SAVE LIVES. Pain isn’t normal-there is hope. You're not alone!💪❤

I’ve also suffered from endometriosis and now understand it as a disconnection and a rejection of the Divine Feminine power within us. Living in a patriarchal society that values masculine qualities above all else (logic, force, action, giving, etc.), we are socialized to reject our feminine qualities (intuition, nurturing, soft, receiving, vulnerability). And our body reacts to this, our womb is speaking to us through pain and illness. I was able to heal endometriosis without medical intervention by working with a Brazilian shaman + plant medicine, literally all pain gone the week after the ceremony and stopped taking the pill cold turkey. Helping women reconnect to their Divine Feminine Essence is now my life’s calling, as I want more women to experience the miracle of healing that is possible when we truly listen to what our cells are trying to tell us! I’m glad you found a solution that worked for you @mistergarf ❤️

It’s so inspiring to see someone such as yourself use their platform to talk about endometriosis, and not only that but for being honest about what it has done to you. I’m truly happy that you’re on the road to recovery! Thank you for telling your story and for giving me hope and recognition for the pain that I have felt for years. It’s often times indescribable, but it’s so important to be honest and open about it. I remember first being diagnosed after years of being told, “oh it’s normal” and when someone finally listened to me they diagnosed me with endometriosis. One surgery in and while it’s not perfect, and I’m still in pain; it makes me feel whole to know that there are others out there and that they are using their voice and their knowledge to spread awareness about endometriosis. With that being said, thank you❤️

Thank you thank you thank you! Sat sobbing reading this book last night the very 1st paragraph could have easily been written about me! At 13 I was told that painful periods were normal take painkillers and rest! At 19 got told to go away and get pregnant and all problems will be sorted! Now at 43 there’s this book that is just amazing I was diagnosed in my late 20’s and have had numerous surgeries that haven’t really worked long term! Just thank you for telling your story and I really hope you get the results you so well deserve xx

Hey, I just wanted to say I thought I had endometriosis and have had two surgeries. They are not very complicated they go in with what they call laparoscopic scope in through your bellybutton and cut you where ever need be. For my first one I had 3. The doctor was a quack and messed me up. The 2nd doctor did a wonderful job. But my pain didn’t go away... because I have what people call vulvodynia. I hope you can keep spreading your word. Just like I have on my Snapchat. I tell women “PAIN ISNT NORMAL” sending love and positivity ❤️

Thank you for speaking out @mistergarf, you are someone young girls can relate to and will help them speak out about how they are suffering!!
I was diagnosed at 19, i am now 46!
You learn to live with pain! BS!!! The next generation doesn’t have to take that as an answer!! My 2nd daughter may very well be a sufferer, and we will do what we can now for her! (16)
I won’t let this disease take away from her quality of life!
This is NO longer a “middle age woman disease” as I was told ? @beelynnnyc love the hashtag #endothesilence
