In a way the tax (or penalty in this case) exists, at least for the major sources of pollution (such as heavy industries), in some countries like the US. Here the federal and state /local environmental agencies put a penalty on the excess of pollution above a certain threshold. But I believe you mean that this taxation should be to the whole society, which I agree. That could improve overall welfare.

Disagree, you just past the cost into the end customer. Profits of ever company that produces, packages with or sells items made of single use plastics should be taxed an extra 1% and every year increase it by 1% until it's at 10% need to force entire production lines to find suitable replacements for single use plastics rather than taxing consumers.

@lucasdigrassi per volume? Sounds good. What about gas emissions? Use of non renewables? Social costs? Energy usage? Etc. I hate taxes, agree negative externalities should be an issue, but how to realistically account for them without letting lobbying take the drivers seat? Not easy I guess, as most things worth doing.

I agree @lucasdigrassi . Something similar to the VAT applied on certain kids clothes. Government introduced 0% tax as an incentive to protect lower income households. Since now it's time to protect our planet, then I totally agree. #recycle #upcycle #environment

@lucasdigrassi or maybe average time before the material used for that product is reclaimed and avaible again (either through recycling or bio-degradation). Because here is the main battle : how do we manage finite matter for a sustainable consumption ?

Hey Lucas! We’re in this debate in the business im in. How do move towards this and cope with the costa in such a poor economy as ours in Brazil? More expensive and therefore exclusive products may underline social inequality
