morgan_from_oregon @usinterior I wonder if you could help me with an argument I’m having with myself: I’m a lifelong Oregonian and for the majority of my life, I’ve had places like the Steens more or less to myself. As everyone has observed by now, though, the instagramification of (not just Oregon’s) wildernesses is putting a lot of them in jeopardy due to higher/misuse. Of course, the more people who appreciate them, the more likely they are to be preserved and protected. I hope I don’t sound like too much of a snob, but what is your agency’s objective/desired outcome of your Instagram feed? How should people use wild areas, regardless of whether they’re locals or tourists?
