50 YEARS AGO TODAY !!! The launch of surely Mankind’s greatest adventure of all. I salute the brave and ingenious men and women of NASA who made the Impossible possible. Humans walked on the Moon and the Earth was changed forever. Check out NASA on Instagram to see this clip in full. Bri. #apollo11 #moonlanding #missionmoon3d

I posted this today on my FaceBook page. Hope it makes you smile.
Part of an interview with Michael Collins about his Apollo 11 role alone aboard the command module while his two colleagues were on the moon. Each time the Columbia Command Module orbited the Moon, he would lose contact with Mission Control in Houston for more than 40 minutes at a time. “I was always asked ‘wasn’t I the loneliest person?’” he said. “The answer was ‘no, I felt fine’.” “It was perfectly enjoyable, I had hot coffee, I had music if I wanted it,” Collins added. “I was not one iota lonely … it was 40-something minutes of peace and quiet.” Wouldn't YOU want to spend 40 minutes orbiting the moon without electronic or human contact while listening to music and drinking coffee?

I was only 1 year and 4 months old but I do remember this! I remember seeing snippets of it on a black and white tv screen, my head turned left, looking up from below, as a baby would see it when lying on the floor. Maybe something my mom or dad did made my limited baby brain think this was very important, and I better file it permanently. Or maybe we have souls that know more than we do at that age. That’s just as amazing to ponder, as space & landing on the moon!

I was 10 when Apollo 11 launched watching the launch on the news last night still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. It was an incredible machine and her crew and all involved in the Apollo project were true visionaries.

?Found Buzz Aldrin's comment, on how confident they were the mission would be successful, very interesting. He said they thought percentage was 60/40. ?
