carabearsd Thank you for raising awareness @seanhayes! 💜 My dad has early onset Alz and my mom has been his 24/7 caregiver since his diagnosis 5 years ago, with occasional respite help from agency in-home caregivers who were amazing. My mom has been a warrior saint through all of it but I’ve often worried for her own emotional and physical health as caregiving, especially for your love of 48 years takes a toll. I’ve done my best to be her caregiver and support throughout. I’m looking into how I can get involved with Embracing Carers to lend some time, my hands for others as well. I also volunteer with @alzassocsandiego to help raise awareness of support and free programs offered nationwide for caregivers & diagnosees or those concerned. skateytheclown My Mother had Alzheimers too. My Father would stay with her during the day, then when I got done with work, I spent the rest of the day/night with her till she went to sleep. Playing bingo, singing to her, doing her hair, her nails, talking to her. It is time I am happy to have had with her. She was ALWAYS there for me when I was growing up, I was so proud to be there for her when she was winding down. I would get tired from the emotional toll of watching her slowly go into the cocoon of the disease, but for those lucid moments, when she awoke for a few moments, ugh the worst and the best. If you have never had the chance to be a care giver, I say to you, do it. You will not regret it. ❤️

e_m_jenkins I took care of my mom for 4 years before #ovariancancer took her at 56. Growing into an adult was a swift change at that time in my life, my caretaking wasn’t always perfect and my mom wasn’t always thrilled to have her child take care of her—but I would not have traded that time for it’s weight in gold. My favorite part of that time was when I’d sit on her bedside listening and talking with her; my feet perched on the bedrail. I can still remember what it felt like as I sat there for hours with the bedrail digging into my feet. I’d never move despite my pain because the pain was worth it to hear my mom speak.

joeizaragoza I've done physical therapy for adults and seniors with Parkinson's,Alzheimer's, Arthritis, paraplegic, then went into home care helping elders shower,dress, shopping... Our job is hard mentally and Physically and we grow strong feelings for our clients. When the day comes when our loved ones pass it's hard for the family and the person caring for them. I wish I could have had the opportunity to care for my grandparents. There's not a day goes by that I think of it.

bex_queen I love this. My wonderful, amazing, beautiful, hilarious grandma passed at 92 from stupid Alzheimer's; between me, the hubs, and my parents we all took care of her during her final years. The heartbreak and stress of the diagnosis is almost overwhelming and then you have the day to day activities of actually caring for her... it's nearly too much. I wouldn't change a second of our time together, though. She was my angel flying too close to the ground.

debiherr Thank you Sean, it’s always been sad to me how most folks taper off when you start caring for someone, husband, parents, etc . They kind off disappear. And I feel all alone, it’s very hard asking for help. Also I find that some folks need to cash in on it. I mean folks that are good friends, and you take them up on there offer to help, but realize that it’s going to cost you!
