Photo by Pete McBride @pedromcbride | Last year, these were the fireworks I watched on the 4th of July: the hill above my town burning. Each year, destructive wildfire scenes like this have grown as climate patterns have become hotter, drier, and more extreme, and developments have pushed farther into wooded areas. These conditions exacerbate another challenge: By not allowing natural fires to occur, we enhance fuel buildup. As the complexity of wildfire season grows and becomes further-reaching, I’m grateful for the firefighters who risk their lives to keep blazes like this at bay. @izaak__3000 Thanks for the knowledge. I've got quite a few county and city firefighter friends so I should have prefaced my knowledge with that. Not underestimating how much work it is fighting wildland fires by any means. I saw the fire breaks cut for the Thomas fire and the terrain is brutal.

This is why (in my opinion) firework use should be more restricted to designated areas. They literally serve no function or benefit. Yes, fires will still happen. But by spreading awareness and raising questions about our responsibilities towards this planet we call home, we can and will change.

@jbstal2015 so you’re saying it’s possible to just haul enough water from the ocean to extinguish these fires? I don’t know if that’s logistically feasible

@surfnride213 no worries. When I started out it was $10.10 an hour and I thought it was the best job ever. Now here I am still doing it 15 years later. ?

There are many causes and they are tragic however nature knows how to care for itself to some degree and to see the regrowth is inspiring.

Fireworks are for jerkoffs. People need to wake up. Let's spend that $ on fixing things of higher importance. #banfireworks
