Repost from @undocutravelers ... go follow the account! Many of us look back at history and think “how could these terrible injustices have occurred?” The same damn way it’s happening today.

I think sharing things like these is helpful in helping people realize the gravity of the situation we’re in, but the next step is also providing privileged people with ways to help and use that privilege. Organizations to donate too (especially grassroots orgs), what to do if you see ICE in your neighborhood, ways to fund lawyers for undocumented immigrants, etc. What continues to shock me is the amount of people who are concerned about undocumented immigrants being detained, but somehow don’t see the connection between that and reporting when they see ICE in their work place, or being unwilling to shelter undocumented immigrants when ICE has been spotted. There’s a huge disconnect there and i think it’s partially because people with privilege who consider themselves well meaning think posting this is enough, or alternatively have no clue as to what tangible actions to protect undocumented people could look like. Since you have such a huge platform maybe you could help spread some of that information or start a go fund me for a grassroots org that’s impactful.

Watch the documentary “shock theory”. ...saw it when I was a child— I am never not shocked. I make sure to make space to be really sad about everything...shootings, black children being murdered, children in cages, black women being murdered, rape culture, black men being murdered, the oppressive patriarchy, the dictator running our country, ...and all the other absolutely shocking and vile things currently going on. Feel the hurt, be sad, be angry and let it motivate you towards helping and healing those in need. Never accept the current climate as OK!

I’ve come to realize that my mind becoming numb to each type of horrible news is my body trying to protect and adjust itself to all of this. It was a scary feeling and I realized this has repeated itself all over the world, many times before. Take a break from the news if you feel this happening. It doesn’t mean you’re heartless. Your body is trying to protect you, because it doesn’t want you to be stressed all the time, and it’s beautiful for that, but we have to take breaks so the shock of horrible news never leaves.

This is a tactic, when we are shocked by the most horrible things and feel helpless to change it with immediate effect we go into self protect mode, we try to protect our sanity and our emotional well being, but what we need to do is try and push into fight mode, bcus we are met by such evil in powerful positions we aim to protect ourselves what is needed is to stand united bcus devided we shall fail, shock turns us numb and then evil becomes the norm 😔😔😔😔😔

The US has long accepted racism and genocide. The last two generations had the opportunity to outsource it, taking that genocidal drive out on Vietnamese and Iraqis. Trump brought that evil eye back home.
