instachun The people of Hawaiʻi love the stars and astronomy, we want TMT built, just don’t build it on Mauna Kea. In the Hawaiian Government, land was divided into pie shaped pieces called the ahupuaʻa. Each ahupuaʻa had ocean for fishing, mountains for growing food, forest for hunting, and the top is called the Wao Akua, The Realm of the Gods. The Wao Akua is so scared, there were many Hawaiians that had not even been up to Mauna Kea because the respected her sacredness. . The original lease was for 1 telescope, there are 13 telescopes up there now, and some of them don’t even work. At the very least they should have decommissioned these broken telescopes like they were supposed, and built there instead of destroying the last open space on Mauna Kea. . This is also over our island’s main aquifer, and the whole world is getting hotter and hotter and dealing with water shortages. . This is also using tax payer money to pay overtime to police for a foreign, for profit company...our Mayor said “If we are going to trample on the souls of Hawaiians, do it with care” . A lot of people in Hawaiʻi think this is the last stand for Hawaiʻi
