Steam and smoke, hide then reveal, two monks making yak butter tea for 400 of their brethren at Shechen Monastery. Yak butter tea is a mix of yak butter, salt, and a thick tea broth made from boiling both leaves and stems. It is highly caloric, good for energy for long prayer sessions in the cold. Situated along the Tea Horse Road, in the eastern Tibetan region of Kham, this and many other my photos will be on exhibit during the Songtsam Cultural Week at the Modern Art Academy in Shanghai. The exhibit opens this weekend. #Sichuan #buttertea #teahorseroad #ZiWu #photoexhibition @songtsam
