Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) introduced a bill that would prevent any federal funding for the 2026 World Cup until the U.S. Soccer Federation agrees to provide equal pay to the U.S. women’s and men’s national teams. The bill would cut off “any and all” federal money that would otherwise be spent when the United States co-hosts the men’s World Cup in 2026. That includes funds that go to host cities, participating local and state organizations, U.S. Soccer, the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football, and the international soccer governing body FIFA. “The clear unequitable pay between the U.S. men and women’s soccer teams is unacceptable and I’m glad the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team latest victory is causing public outcry,” Manchin said in a statement. “I’m encouraging everyone to call their Senator and Representatives to help us get this bill passed and finally pay the equitable pay they deserve.” // 📸: Getty Images

That’s all good, but he should learn economics. The Men’s World Cup makes 6 billion USD to split and give the men their pay whereas the women’s World Cup only made 131 million USD. Plus, doesn’t help that there is no professional league for them getting support and acting as a foundational basis, a platform to popularize the sport, and that this team can get bested by a 15-years old amateur team (April 2017) with a 5-2 score and playing with the proverbial “kid’s gloves” to treat them nicely.....

It makes me sad to see so many people who dont support qomens soccer yapping about pay equality. The women made more revenue on games. Thats it, just games there are other revenue streams. They played twice as many matches as the men and barely made more in ticket sales. Tey to keep in mind USSF basically gives away tickets to the womens matches.

Equal pay is the least they can do!! Internationally, we were never really taken seriously as a soccer country before the women’s team. The men’s team hasn’t even qualified in years, let alone a win! They got America on their feet! I’ve never seen so much engagement, enthusiasm and national support for the sport before them! Go ladies!!

my opinion men wanna say how we are gold diggers and all we want is money.. first off u need to pay us what we deserve not what you think we deserve if we get paid u would see more independent women instead of baby mamas looking for child support and or looking for someone to take care of them.. PAY ME MY MONEY!!!!

Old Joe trying to get any attention possible but jumping on a situation....Joe is a Republican in Democrat clothing....being from WV they do not elect progressive, liberal democrats....someone ask him his stance on abortion, gun rights, climate change, etc you will see his true colors....btw it’s WV not W.Va.

This championship team was beaten in 2017 by a 15u boys soccer team in Dallas. No one pays to watch 15 year old boys play why would anyone pay to watch teams 15 year boys olds could beat play? Men’s teams produce exponentially more money so they get paid more money. This shouldn’t be that hard a concept.
