Always nice to see an image reproduced so beautifully, I just received the @atEdge booklet for fall 2019. I choose an image from a series that I photographed for @ナショナルジオグラフィック on Biofuels. I was able to spend some time with Cane Cutters in Brazil.
1st image: A cane cutter in the field show the high of the cane at the time of harvest.
2nd image: A cane cutter works down to the root of the planet to cut as much as possible.
3rd image: A weary team of cutters sits in the bus preparing for the hour-long ride to the dormitories that they are housed in.
4th image: The hand & a portrait of a retired cane cutter.
5th image: A field in Brazil is burned to clear the bagas (extra planet stocks) and make it easier to get to the cane. The fields are burn to clear the field of snakes but mostly to increase the speed of the harvest.
