For a century, the closed world of the jazz musician was a men’s club. Today, there’s a new wave of women instrumentalists—and they’re shattering what’s left of jazz’s so-called brass ceiling. At the link in bio, V.F.’s Abigail Jones spotlights the women revitalizing the genre.

I'm a fan of the spread and genuinely happy for all these wonderful musicians getting more high profile exposure, but do your homework before you write that Jazz was a "closed world" and "Men's club". Women instrumentalists have always been around, dating back to the Hot Five recordings with Louis Armstrong in the 20's. No need to include the genre in a subtle attack because it just so happens that it's male practitioners outnumber the female one's. Jazz has already been through enough? @vanityfair

? and women have always been in the genre, just often ignored. Thank you for paying attention, I wish more media outlets would and did!
