What does Etsy think is going to happen when sellers across the board have to raise their prices by 25% or more? Do you really think OUR customers are going to be happy by an overpriced website that they’ll no longer be using? I don’t think you get that the sellers are YOUR customers (who you treat like garbage) the people purchasing from us are OUR customers!! Many of my clients purchase my $15 candle and pay $10 to ship the first one and $1 for all additional candles. So I’m suppose to raise my price to $25 per candle and offer free shipping? Most of my clients purchase 5-6 candles then they’re going to be paying and additional $50-60 for their order??? This is ridiculous. If a client doesn’t care for the shipping price in the end then they’re not going to care for the candle price in the beginning. People aren’t stupid they can do math. And I do offer free shipping for all orders over $220. Do you know how MANY bulk orders I receive? You’ve now taken away my clients desire to spend that amount.

I responded to your survey months ago about the proposed new changes regarding shipping and was very clear that the changes would hurt my business, and I know many other etsy makers responded the same way, yet you went ahead with these changes. I’m not going to charge my international customers even more for shipping with having a built in cost to my pieces to make up for free shipping to US customers. This also further complicates things when I also sell at brick and mortars and I refuse to have different prices for the same item, that’s not fair to any of my customers. Artists ARE NOT amazon prime! If you want to better your site then impose stricter guidelines on what can be sold so buyers don’t have to weed through goods that aren’t handmade or vintage. Punishing sellers who don’t offer free US shipping by not showing them in searches is retaliatory and incredibly disappointing. I have been a faithful etsy seller for 6 years and have made your company thousands of dollars. Do better.

This new free shipping over $35 and prioritising US shops in the top listings over other international shops is really shady. A lot of our orders come from the US and as a small, one woman run business there is no way I can afford to offer free shipping to the US, it’s just bad business. I also don’t want to Jack my prices up to “include” shipping costs as that is wholly unfair to customers, especially those outside of the US. Etsy isn’t Amazon or eBay and that’s why we like to use and shop with it.
The only shops that can offer free shipping are those who currently mass produce all of their stuff, who have massive sales numbers and who offering free shipping and promoted listings to is pointless - they don’t need that boost.
You should be listening to the feedback and how upset YOUR customers/ shop sellers before implementing this change.

As an Italian seller, are @etsy aware that shipping even small packages of fine art costs €75 to North America? That is not including packaging.... Oh, and, um... the ART!! Nor is it including the cost of travelling first to Naples, to get certification from the dept. of fine art, who - technically and legally we are expected to acquire - in order to ship art out of Italy. I'm pressured to now provide a free shipping service to North American residents - I don't see how the system could be stacked more against selling unique works of art at prices which are not eccessivo. I am a VERY long-standing Etsy seller (over 17 years!), but am gravitating away from it, as it seems much more in favour of cheap mass-production and much more against sole-trader artisan folks (who it professes to support only through lip service)

@etsy As a loyal buyer on your platform (NOT a seller) hearing about the latest changes related to shipping costs and product visibility is super disappointing. You are hurting everyone involved to make a profit. I already have started to be pushed away as I can barely find truly handmade items from small business owners in the sea of mass productions, cheaply made products that show up as “ADs”. What once was an incredibly special site fully of opportunities for buyers to find unique, handmade items and sellers to pursue their artistic ambitions is now far less special. I am of but one human. But this human is pursuing direct buys from these artists rather than using your platform. I stand in solidarity with artists trying to follow their passion.

What's really crazy is they are pointibg to a test done in May that shows how much customers like free shipping as their excuse to do this. But on the test, in which I was a participant, the sellers were not a part of it, the items prices were not increased, and Etsy paid for the shipping. When the shipping costs are paid completely by someone else and the item price is NOT increased, of COURSE everyone loves "free shipping"! But those testing parameters bear little resemblance to their new scheme. It really is all a big, log-term plot. And it's only a matter of time before we get another cool and awesome announcement from our buddy, Josh, telling us that buyers are 37% more likely to complete a sale if the shop offers FREE RETURNS.
