These days I’m feeling extra #proudtobeindian ❤️ Indra Nooyi — former CEO of PepsiCola and member of @Amazon’s board of directors is such an impressive force to reckon with. She seemingly effortlessly broke glass ceilings and rose up the corporate ranks in her career...And guys, she’s consistently ranked one of the world’s most powerful women! Talk about inspiration ✨

@tracydenisonjohnson seriously? You “researched”? I am still deeply connected to India as my family is still there. So I am not talking about “researched” talking points or hearsay. I am sharing my personal experience. Talk about nonIndian-splaining on your part. And in a way I don’t blame you either because the parties with vested interests have been hugely successful of creating this bogey of caste system as a current issue. If anything, unlike in USA, India has almost 50% seats in elite schools, coveted government jobs etc marked out/reserved for the supposed lower castes. Similar numbers are required for private companies as well to gain certain government favors. And this is not based on economic ability at all. So in reality the so called upper caste plots are getting hurt the most. Talk about reverse discrimination. Like I said in my previous post, there are indeed some pockets that might still discriminate based on caste, but it is the powerful who really use the crutch of caste to do power plays. The accused upper castes have no power or wealth in today’s India. And their numbers are too low for them to become an attractive constituency for politicians. So the bogey of caste system@is only raised (and sadly immensely successfully) by politicians playing identity politics and evangelicals who want to destroy Hindu religion and entice the so called lower caste people to their own religion by telling them that their religion is still discriminating on basis of caste. So your continued claim of discrimination based caste system will tell me which group you fall in.

@tracydenisonjohnson keep you don’t give up do you? I am very familiar with “scientists “ and their inherent bias. As a lawyer, I am lucky enough to get to review both scientific papers and peer criticisms. So I know scientists are not free of inherent bias and often mold@conclusions to suit their goals or needs. So the “I am am a scientist argument”will not fly here. I have seen first hand how both scientific and sociological research papers are obtained to suit one”s agenda. As a scientist you should know that. And before throwing a hissy for about me ignoring all your “cited resources “ you didn’t share any. Maybe go and read your own post. And a true scientist will not be disingenuous to claim “personal experiences “ as merely anecdotal. It’s the life I live and continue to live. Anyway, I can see that you are set in your assumptions and not willing to consider that you may have started@with wrong data. I have no time to argue with the likes of you. Go on ahead with your assumptions.

@justmepradnya researching scientific studies to understand if a cultural system is still valid in a country I haven’t been too is actually a very valid way to learn about the topic. Your set of “personal experiences” are anecdotal in nature and only represent what you know. Peer-reviewed research takes out the “my family says...” kind of bias. I’m so glad you condescended to not “blame me” because I live in the US. I don’t automatically assume things are true or not; I’m scientist, so I trust data. Thanks for telling me I’m wrong without actually looking for the work I pointed to...I can see you’re very open-minded!

@mindykaling please rethink your support of a person who’s a leader in a company (Pepsi) that does more harm than good. Even through their acquisitions of “healthy” brands they are still a terrible corporation that makes people sicker, contributes to the food addiction/obesity crisis in children and exploits the planet. Also, I’m flabbergasted at your enthusiasm for Amazon-a company that doesn’t pay taxes, that kills small businesses and treats/pays workers unfairly. But I suppose your wealthy status gets you excited about the wealthy status of others! ?

@tracydenisonjohnson gtfo. None of the links are “scientific research” just opinion pieces. I thought you would know the difference as a “scientist “. The Berkeley paper you linked literally is a grad student blog post also quoting-wait for it- one person”s thoughts on India’s caste system. I am so done with you. Bye Felicia.

she would also say she sacrificed a lot to be where she is- including not being available to her children...there is a reality to power and unfortunately, for women it is difficult to have it all- at least all at the same time. we need to support mothers/ parents to make work a more supportive environment.
