So, this week we had @テイラー・スウィフト expose a pretty brutal side of the music industry, some middle aged multi millionaire white dudes doing what they do best, controlling , belittling and humiliating the very people that they couldn’t do without. Now, our very own @ケイト・ナッシュ has done something spectacular here, I think consumers have little to no idea how hard it is to survive in the industry today, please please please if youre lost for things to do this weekend, please watch this. It’s a real eye opener. MUSICIANS WORLWIDE I BEG WE START A PROPER UNION THAT ACTUALLY WORKS, we need to change this system. POWER IS NEVER GIVEN, IT HAS TO BE TAKEN. Link in bio etc

Such a heartbreaking but inspiring watch. Couldn’t have come at a more apt time too, I hope somehow Taylor sees this, watches & endorses. Her situation has shown if there’s one person who can bring this conversation about artists being continually fucked over/signing away all rights, royalties to do with and generally all ownership over their art, its @taylorswift. It brought me to tears seeing how broken this industry can make artists feel watching this, more people need to see it. Considering most people seek to work in the music industry as an artist or otherwise because of a love of music, it should break all of our hearts that artists feel the only way to be successful is to give up ownership of their art. Hopefully the more artists like yourself who’ve been locked into a contract like hers who speak up will mean one aspiring musician knows a deal like the one Taylor fell victim to at 15. Years. Old. ? is not their only choice/thinks twice about signing the deal/gets extra legal advice when signing and in time those deals become extinct. Hopefully this also makes those drafting the contracts think twice too. Thank you for speaking out in support of Taylor and every other artist out there! I Stan ?

@mua_capsule Yep I already know all that, her father put in money to fund Big Machine Records, but they still signed a regular record contract which Taylor has never questioned the legality of it. However Taylor is the sole reason BMR is worth millions so she is calling out that the person that made millions off her sold off her masters to someone who publicly tried to take her down. Not to mention that she wasn’t given a chance to outright purchase her masters back. And she was discovered - through her songwriting- so I’m not sure what you mean by she “wasn’t discovered.”

@mua_capsule calling out the industry and acknowledging that you signed a contract at 15 that you didn’t understand is not playing the victim (read her statement). She doesn’t ask for sympathy she wants the chance to own HER music. The clickbait articles that claim she plays the victim role are super sexist and riddled with inaccuracids I’ve noticed. She is using her leverage to hopefully influence the next generation of artists, nothing about that is weak. It’s using her power for good. Thanks for weighing in on this @lilyallen!

I can’t believe some greedy talentless asshole now owns Taylor’s passion. Art she poured her soul into. And the fact that they didn’t even give her the option of buying them (the album for an album scam does not count) . I think it’s good that she’s talking about it publicly because she’s a very powerful artist and businesswoman who has teams of expensive lawyers etc. Sort of it can happen to her it can happen to anyone. #westandwithtaylor

Musicians, producers, DJs in the UK... if you’re reading this, remember to join your Musicians Union. You get free legal advice and representation if you are a member. Let them look over everything before you sign ANYTHING. To survive and to be paid for the art WE produce, we’ve got to know our rights and take a stand before industry vampires bleed us all dry. Keep spreading the message @lilyallen ??✨

Yes lily. Hopefully now everyone can see that even a superstar STILL has limited control over their art, this will prompt some change in the industry. Music has become so devalued imo even tho its one of the things that gives ppl the most joy in life. Time for change so that everyone in the industry gets their fair share. No vested interest here, just a concerned consumer.
