NikonUSAさんのインスタグラム写真 - (NikonUSAInstagram)「Are you looking to break in to the photography industry? #NikonAmbassador and sports photographer @DaveBlackPhoto shares how he got his start in photography with a behind-the-scenes look into his career thus far. 📸 1. How’d you get your start in photography? “I got my start in photography while obtaining university degrees in graphic design and studio drawing. I wanted to be an illustrator for books and magazines. I had to take a black & white photography class to fulfil my majors. The Department head said I should pursue photography, and so I kept playing around with the idea after I graduated.” 📸 2. What is one thing you wish you knew when you were starting out with photography? “The one thing I wished I’d known when I first started photography was that I could actually make a living with it. Photography was just something fun to do for me. If I had known that it was possible to make a living photographing SPORTS, I would have pursued it more intently from the start.” 📸 3. What’s your go-to lens and camera body? “My go-to camera today is the Nikon Z 7 with the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens. Most of what I photograph today is commercial sports action where I am one-on-one with the athlete and much closer than during a competition.” 📸 4. What was your most memorable photography moment? “Wow, there are so many amazing sports memories during my 40 years in the business! However, Mary Lou Retton winning the first ever gold medal for the USA in Women’s Gymnastics at the 1984 Summer Olympics – my first Olympic Games – is definitely my number 1 memory.” 📸 5. What’s one thing people may not know about you? “I was a gymnast growing up and competed during my university years. After graduating, I coached gymnastics for a short time. In 1976, a fellow gymnast and extreme sky diver who performed for an indoor aeronautics show offered me $30,000 to make a free-fall dive from the celling of the Astro Dome (208 feet) into an inflated landing mat. The crazy thing was I actually thought about doing it ... then I said ‘NO WAY!’” 📸 Swipe through to see his stunning sports photography, shot with the #Nikon #D850 and the #Z7.
