Ever since I was a little girl, one of my hobbies was rearranging and redecorating my room, and I did this on a weekly basis. My room was my safe haven for brainstorming, drawing, writing and for letting the creative yawp grow, expand and evolve. I quickly noticed that my surroundings affected all this, so I found myself first tending to the space itself in order to foster an atmosphere that inspired creativity. And ever since, I’ve found myself continually doing this because I believe beauty breathes joy and life, that it refreshes our senses, and has the ability to bring us back home to the childlike wonder in our heart.

A painting can be beautiful and solicit emotion, whether it encapsulates a staged setting or is completely abstract, and this is how I see photography, snapshots, moments and glimpses too. The poetry of it all, of beauty and art, provides respite from our daily and often arduous walk through the complexities of life. When we share glimpses of beauty it reminds us to make room for rest, for daydreams, for joy and wonder, and creating from that very well itself, a well which needs to be filled each day.

My favorite piece in this photo is my son’s abstract painting. It inspired me to change up my creative nook, which then inspired me to write in my journal, which then produced a sense of peace, which then refreshed my eyes to notice the beauty of the golden hues beaming in through the windows from the sunlight, which then inspired gratitude, which then inspired more thoughts of gratitude even amidst the challenges of the day-to-day. And all this from a painting, all this from beauty. What a gift. Beauty for beauty’s sake. I’ll take it.

I've not redecorated my room or desk much but I journaled in a different part of the house today and just that small change made me enjoy my journaling so much more than what I have done in weeks ??
