Repost from @munroebergdorf from yesterday, 50th anniversary of #Stonewall - “If you are anti-trans or anti-sex work then you do not understand the roots of queer #pride. The most marginalized members of our community continue to be on the front lines worldwide, fighting to exist in a world that has only accepted *some* of our community.
Whilst pride is about "love". It's also about highlighing the stuff that isn't as palatable to the cis straight white masses... It's about the high numbers of young queer people of colour experiencing homelessness in the UK after being kicked out of their homes. It's about black trans women being raped and/or murdered by the same men who want to have sex with us (rest in peace #NaomiHersi). It's about UK media outlets employing anti-trans activists to print bigoted misinformation on trans people to incite intentional public hatred. It's about the fact that more than one in four (27 per cent) of trans young people in the UK have attempted to commit suicide and nine in ten (89 percent) have thought about it. 72 per centof trans people have self-harmed at least once.
We've come so far in 50 years and have so much further to go, but in order to progress we need to be amplifying the voices of the most marginalized. Not glossing over everything with a *love is love* slogan. Pride was started by transgender women of colour, black butch lesbians and queer sex workers. Failure to centre them within the modern day pride movement is a failure for us all.

As a white man I’ll never know the disenfranchisement the LGBT community places upon persons of color, but as a gay person who grew up and came out in Appalachia in the 1990’s I bare the wounds of my decisions. I bare the wounds of my family who endured violent harassment, myself who was endlessly attacked and beaten in front of school teachers and administrators to express who I was. I bare those wounds proudly so that members of the LGBTQ+ community can love more freely, express more openly, and live more safely. My bleeding nose, face, and wounds paved the way for the youth of today being more comfortable. HOWEVER, I want to give my props to Pedro Zamora who gave me the courage to come out! Pedro was the first real gay person I ever saw(even though on TV). His example has reminded me to live a life larger than myself. In this pride month full of jubilation and debauchery, remember the women and men that came before us which have us the privilege to celebrate today! #pride #gayguy #gaypride #love

Wow! That was educating, thanks ? But can people help to explain to me what "anti-sex workers" like means in the US? I don't get it. I get a feeling that the problems are due to laws - which differs between states. Here in Sweden it is not against the law to be in prostitution. But it is to be the one paying for sex, or "sex". Since there also is a fresh law from last year requiering consent in sex, otherwise it is rape. And since most transactions money for sex would not have been done without the money - it is rape, not sex. The woman having no lust for the man or for having sex at all. The woman only needing the money or forced into it in trafficing captivity. And yes, I know that there *are* people into "sex work" by their own choice. But they are so few in the big industry of use and abuse of people. Many are children with a tough background. I can be a feminist - and disagree with that industry, can't I? Why not?

I love #pride I love LGBTQIA folk but I'll tell u one thing! You teach people how to treat you! If you tell a person that your body is worth $20, $200, $20000 then they're going to assume your body and your life is a cheap commodity to be bought and sold! Promoting sex work as if its positive @mattmcgorry does none of us ANY favors! When you put a price tag on humans it teaches men that our worth is worthless because it can be purchased. I understand sex work for some of them THEN was the only alternative they felt they had but I will never be for prostitution ever. It harms women! It harms children! It makes outsiders lose respect for the LGBT movement when we associate with it and frankly prostitution equates to worthlessness. That's the opposite of pride

I appreciate the time and energy you spend educating and broadening your mind we all should be doing that more I think your super cool for that. Curiosity though I know your an advacot for human rights would you ever consider dating a trans woman. I know it's still attached negative view especially in Hollywood I assume...

Ugh spare me from the bowtie-gays in these comments... ubderscoring the pompous classism rampant in the community. Instead of nitpicking how this isn't "historically accurate" how about just showing the "love" & "support" this 'community' is supposed to be about? [@ me all you like, I'm not reading or responding]

I’m not anti sex workers, but I don’t agree in sex work. We have to think of the supply and demand. The supply are women(whether trans or cis) and the demand is coming from cis men. We can’t have non toxic sex work in a patriarchal society where womens are seen as objects to be used and thrown away.
