Galerie Artek was opened next to the Artek shop in Helsinki in 1950, and came to play a pivotal role in introducing modernist art to Finland. Led by Artek co-founder and arts patron Maire Gullichsen, Galerie Artek showed international artists such as Jean Arp, Edgar Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec and Serge Poliakoff, among Finnish contemporary artists.
