The word “jean” started out in the 1800s, in reference to a twill cotton cloth used for trousers. But it wasn’t until the late 1970s and early 1980s that high fashion began to take an interest in what we now know as denim jeans. #BrookeShields’s provocative #CalvinKlein campaign and #ClaudiaSchiffer’s sultry ads for #Guess helped give the blue jean a new kind of seductive potential and by the 1990s, fashion houses such as #Versace, #Chanel and #Dior had all entered the jean market.
