Last week, HRH The Duke of Sussex was proud to co-host a fundraising event for National Geographic’s @intotheokavango - a documentary film that highlights the vulnerability of the critical ecosystem that is The Okavango Delta and its source rivers in Angola.

The Okavango Delta is the primary water source for a million people and is home to the world's largest remaining elephant population.

His Royal Highness has a long-standing love of Africa and a connection with Botswana and Angola for over 20 years. The Duke is grateful to see National Geographic partnering with the Angolan government, @thehalotrust, @africanparksnetwork and many others in protecting this extraordinary habitat by supporting the sustainable management of the river basin's resources and focusing on a conservation economy.

Threats such as uncontrolled fires, the bushmeat trade, unsustainable harvesting of the forest and rapid biodiversity loss are already destroying this incredible and delicate landscape. Known by the locals as ‘Source of life’, this ecosystem is wilderness at its best, playing an absolutely crucial role for the planet, people and wildlife. sameewood213 I am a teacher. I am currently reading The One and Only Ivan by K.A. Applegate to my students. I am making a connection between your real-life compassion for our elephants and wilderness and the text that I read aloud to my students. My class is learning about animals and habitats, specifically elephants and gorillas. They are learning about a gorilla named Ivan, who was actually a real gorilla, sold as a pet then kept in a concrete box for 27 years. See here... https://youtu.be/ly6UOKQDLvI anyway. My point is - thank you for using your platform, power, and good to raise awareness to how vital it is to protect these animals and habitats. I can do my small part by educating these students and helping them link the good they learn in school with real life. Thank you Duke and Duchess, for your good example and show of character. vwitanachchi Dear Prince Harry- thank you so much for all that you do to save the most precious wildlife! I am returning home after spending almost one month in Botswana ??! I was very sad to see a bit of animal cruelty while I was there. On my way and on the flight it was such a coincidence that I chose to watch the movie- Mia and the White Lion without knowing what it was about and I couldn’t control my tears for the pain the animals are going through at the hands of humans. Please do whatever you can within your powers to make us humans realize that animal lives are as valuable as our own and that they need to be given the freedom to live without fear! ?

missjmwxx My sister @k0dak85 adopted African and Asian elephants from WWF for my birthday yesterday from my nieces. Elephants remind me of my nan as she loved them when she was alive. My sister also got me the cutest elephant bracelet... Plus a glittery French Bulldog ornament (not that that one has anything to do with this post lol) I’m a lucky lady to have such a wonderful and thoughtful sister!

earthmother28 This is so important, how do we with no global platform help on grassroots level? So many beautiful animals are on the verge of extinction. So sad sometimes I think it's a political issue governments allow these hunters and companies to prey on these animals for money and tourism. We need to do more then donating but am not sure what. Thank you for all that you do.
