We found this little baby turtle in our swimming pool struggling to stay afloat. Any turtle lovers out there? What is the best thing I can do to help this little baby? We have a lot of hawks circling our yard daily...I’m afraid to just let her go! Any advice would be greatly appreciated...unless you tell me to just leave it in the yard and if a hawk gets it, it gets it 🙄 I’m not really down with that. Hoping to give ‘Shelley’ the best chance to survive in the wild!

@jogarciaswisher contact a wildlife rehabilitator in your area. The app animal help now is very useful or you can google it. Even if the one you contact doesn’t take reptiles they will have contacts. ( I volunteer with a rehabber)

The best thing you can do is if there is a wooded area near where you found it, put it there. They can live happily as terrestrial little ones. Just be careful not to handle them too much, they can be carriers for salmonella. ??

That’s a red eared slider water turtle. It’s best to release them into a lake if there is one near by. My mom has been a turtle lover her entire life and has raised many kinds.

Pretty sure it's a red eared slider. Find your closest water source (not salt water!) And release it. Many people keep them as pets but they're wild animals. ?????

I found a Russian tortoise walking across a hot street and gave it to a local animal rescue/shelter. Maybe find a local rescue that has space for this baby turtle.

Put a fake owl in your yard to keep the hawks away. My sister had the same problem in her yard here in Cali and she did that to keep the hawks away and it worked.
